Black History Month: Jesse Owens

WaveLink, Inc. is celebrating Black History Month with a special focus on recognizing the significant contributions of Black Alabamians.

Jesse Owens, considered one of the world’s premier athletes in track and field, was born in Oakfield, AL. The first American to win four gold medals in a single Olympics, he also broke two world records and winning gold in the 100 meters, long jump, 200 meters and 4×100 meter relay at the 1936 Berlin Games. While running for Ohio State University at the Ben Ten Championships the year before, Jesse shattered three world records and tied another, considered the greatest single performance in his sport. Jesse Owens Memorial Park, located near his birthplace, is dedicated to his stories, his sport, and his legend.

Black History Month: Blind Boys of Alabama

WaveLink, Inc. is celebrating Black History Month with a special focus on recognizing the significant contributions of Black Alabamians.

The Blind Boys of Alabama began as six teenagers from the Alabama Institute for the Negro Deaf and Blind, performing for the first time in 1944. They’ve been “everywhere from Carnegie Hall and the White House to the Grammys and the Gospel Hall of Fame as they broke down racial barriers, soundtracked the Civil Rights movement, and helped redefine modern gospel music in the process.” As a 5-time Grammy Award winning group, they are now nominated for 3 more Grammys for their most recent work, “Echoes of the South”.

Black History Month: Condoleezza Rice

WaveLink, Inc. is celebrating Black History Month with a special focus on recognizing the significant contributions of Black Alabamians.

Born in Birmingham in 1954, Condoleezza (Condi) Rice is best known as the first woman to serve as the United States’ National Security Advisor (2001 – 2005) and our first female African-American Secretary of State (2005-2009.) When appointed as Secretary of State, Ms. Rice was the highest-ranking woman in the history of our nation to be in the presidential line of succession. Ms. Rice is an educator, writer, and currently serves as Director of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, working to advance ideas that promote economic opportunity and prosperity while securing and safeguarding peace for America and all mankind.

Black History Month: Anthony Daniels

WaveLink, Inc. is celebrating Black History Month with a special focus on recognizing the significant contributions of Black Alabamians.
Anthony Daniels made state history by becoming the youngest House Minority Leader in 2017. He was also the first Black man to hold the position.

Anthony grew up in Midway, Alabama, and graduated from Bullock County High School before earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education from Alabama A&M University.
