Black History Month: Condoleezza Rice

Born in Birmingham in 1954, Condoleezza (Condi) Rice is best known as the first woman to serve as the United States’ National Security Advisor (2001 – 2005) and our first female African-American Secretary of State (2005-2009.) When appointed as Secretary of State, Ms. Rice was the highest-ranking woman in the history of our nation to be in the presidential line of succession. Ms. Rice is an educator, writer, and currently serves as Director of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, working to advance ideas that promote economic opportunity and prosperity while securing and safeguarding peace for America and all mankind.
